1. Eat a diet rich of lean meats, organic vegetables, fiber and calcium-rich! It will keep your weight down, your heart healthy and help to keep your bones stronger as you age.
  2. Keep moving! Commit to at least 15 minutes per day of exercise. That might mean a walk around the block, or on a treadmill. It might mean joining a local health club. The more you work your muscles, the healthier they are!
  3. Stay socially active! Keep your mind and spirit singing through interaction and fun with friends! Volunteering for non-profit organizations give you a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
  4. Keep regular doctor checkups. That means your family doctor, your dentist, your optometrist and your hearing audiologist.
  5. Limit alcohol consumption and quit smoking. It’s not too late to make a positive impact on your health in your future.
  6. Get a good night’s sleep. Keep to a routine schedule of the hours you sleep. Make sure you listen to your body on how much you need.
  7. Keep your mind strong! Do crossword, jigsaw and other types of puzzles! Read books, write in a journal, and engage in activities that stimulates your mental function.
  8. Wear good supportive shoes! A fall can be catastrophic for a senior. Make sure that the shoes you wear help you keep a strong balance.
  9. Focus on Prevention! Taking a good multi-vitamin every day is one way. Wash your hands frequently. Keep hand disinfectant around you and use it.
  10. Live with an Attitude of Gratitude! A thankful heart sees the good in everything, even the hard times. Staying positive helps reduce feelings of depression. Find ways to make your heart happy and be thankful for everything in your life.
