Welcome to the Month of June, everyone. Exactly 13 years ago this month was the time where my family faced a Crossroad in my mother’s life. We realized together that it was time to sell her home, find a better living solution for her, and somehow, “figure out all the details,” many of which we had no clue about.

As a result, so many early decisions we made as a family ended up haunting us later because we didn’t have enough knowledge to think things through. Instead of fully understanding what the future for my mom might be, we acted shortsightedly. We should have been better prepared for situations that became overwhelming later.

Numerous studies show that even when families think they are prepared, 80% of them are truly not prepared because they are unaware of care and financial options, understanding Medicare and Medicaid. How to properly set up their legal documents and knowing the right questions to ask when interviewing care providers.  Families most often lack the knowledge to make the right decisions up front.

Making emotionally tasking decisions is most difficult when we are in survival mode.

If not properly addressed up front we can see this dynamic play out to create division in families. It can create financial hardship, and overwhelming stress and chaos.

I truly believe that the greatest amount of stress in navigating later life is the stress of not knowing what we should know. It’s when things come out of nowhere and bites you in the leg!

It’s my hope this month that you will deem a lot of value with the content that we provide this month. Listen and learn on what to know in advance before a crisis hits, and how to recognize when it’s time for a new care option for either a loved one or yourself. Once that change is needed, learn what options are truly available for you as a family.

Also, please join us on Saturday, June 23 at Brookdale Admiral Heights in West Seattle, from 2-4 PM.  Learn from an expert panel who will share with you how to best be prepared for times, “At the Crossroads.”

Wishing all of you a joyous beginning of a beautiful summer in Greater Puget Sound!

Warmest Regards,
