Dear Friends,
Welcome to May, as we tackle, in my opinion, the most daunting part of eldercare! Senior Living! By far, I remember being thrust with very little time due to my mother’s impending release from a rehab center, that she must go to Assisted Living. I remember the feeling of being truly “up against it” and feeling like I knew nothing about a decision that I was going to have to make for her care.
One of my biggest beefs about the eldercare industry as a whole, and the reason I started Answers for Elders, was due to the fact that very few, if any national associations educate the consumer over things we need to know when undertaking this type of task.
We are making life-changing decisions on behalf of our loved ones without knowing all the facts. I really find it unconscionable that more is not being done to help families today. My own memory is that I felt like a deer in the headlights. I felt Completely ill-equipped to be able to make decisions like this, and yet, here I was, touring one community after another. I listened to every sales pitch they offered and felt more confused than ever.
To make matters even worse, was that I called a nationally known online site that promised “counseling” and referrals to communities that would be a potential good fit for her. Instead, the call was a 20-minute general Q&A, and a barrage of phone calls from communities that were not even in my target zone. It was truly a nightmare, and something I never want to have a family experience ever!
This month on Answers for Elders Radio we tackle on what you need to know about navigating senior housing. When it is time to make a change, how do you determine the right fit for you?
The good news is that we have many options to choose from these days, even more than we had in 2006 when I was seeking out options for my own mother.

Suzanne
