Dear Friends,

Welcome to May! Spring is fully sprung! Flowers are blooming! The waters are glistening in the sunshine and We are now enjoying spectacular sunsets over Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest. There is not a day that I do not feel blessed to live here, and to share my heart with our listening audience every single Saturday and Sundays as so many are navigating the difficult process of eldercare.

This month our theme is Housing Options. There are more ways than ever in which a senior can live out their aging years. It’s incredible to see how our industry is evolving to create living environments that support individual choice, services to ensure a higher quality of life, and new advancements in keeping seniors in their homes longer!

We are also hopeful to bring about greater awareness through our incredible experts to help Northwest seniors and their families make the right decisions for their senior loved ones in their living situation. You may be completely unaware of all the options available, or even what today’s senior living community looks like! I invite you take a look!

I picked May for this topic because it seems like summer is the busiest time of year that seniors will start the process to sell their homes and look for senior living options. It’s also a great time to get out and tour the many Senior Living options available in your neighborhood. Make a point to go once a week and take a tour and have lunch at a community near you! See how easy it will be to make it your ‘home’, surrounded by beautiful grounds and get to know the staff. Learn about the many activities and understand what options are available is your first step. It will help you make the transition easier!

Share Your Stories and Memories of Your Loved Ones who have Passed

The month of May also includes Memorial Day. It’s the time to remember those who have passed, and often times it may be a spouse or parent. There are many ways to remember those who have passed who have touched our lives, and we would love to learn about what those memories are like for you! How does your family remember your loved one if they do not have a gravesite to come to? Do you go to a special place that has meaning to your family? Do you cook a special family meal? Do you get together with family and friends? Maybe you take Dad’s favorite fishing pole fishing or spend the day in the wilderness.

On Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-27) Evergreen Washelli will be sponsoring the Answers for Elders Radio Show with a special program that will guide families with ideas to celebrate their loved ones. You will learn about many of their traditions at their two beautiful memorial parks, both on Aurora Avenue and at Abbey View in Brier. Discover the traditions and ways that they honor our local military veterans in their special veteran’s cemetery.

We also want to hear about you! If you have a special story to share about how you celebrate your loved one who has passed, we want to know about it. Share it and contact me at: Suzanne@answersforelders.com.

Warmest Regards,

Suzanne
