Will You Help a Senior Who is Alone This Holiday Season?

  1. Find seniors who are alone through various sources in your community. This includes your local senior center, senior services, church community or skilled nursing or rehabilitation facility near you.
  2. Create a food basket! As you are making Christmas cookies or candy, make a few extra and deliver to a senior.
  3. Deliver a poinsettia or flowering bulb such as an amaryllis or narcissus.
  4. Purchase a “spa day.” Do you know of a senior woman who has neglected herself and would treasure the pampering?
  5. Take them out for a holiday lunch. Do you know their favorite foods?
  6. Pay them a visit and just listen for 20 minutes. Let them share their stories!
  7. Compile a list of elder orphans in your community and share that list with a community organization or group you belong to. Perhaps each one of you can adopt one for the holiday season!
  8. Gift Cards are always a good option, as long as you can help the senior with their ordering and shopping. They may not have the ability to get out and shop or cannot or do not know how to order online, but you can help them do this!
  9. Feed one senior a holiday meal. Make a little extra, wrap it up and deliver it to make them feel special.
  10. Take them for a drive, to the store or just to view the Christmas lights. Get them out so they can enjoy some fresh air.
